McKenna Grace Cast as Daphne in Netflix’s Live-Action Scooby-Doo Prequel Series

Netflix’s upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series is beginning to take shape, the first casting announcement has been made, with McKenna Grace officially cast as Daphne Blake. The news was first reported by Variety.

The series is set to be a prequel adaptation, focusing on how the Mystery Inc. gang first came together and worked on their very first case together. Rather than jumping straight into familiar territory, the show will be stepping back into the past to explore the early dynamics between the characters before they became the iconic group that audiences know and love today.

The story is set to take place during the group’s final summer at camp. Old friends Shaggy and Daphne find themselves drawn into a mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy who may have witnessed a supernatural murder. Along the way, they are joined by Velma, described as a “scientific townie”, and Freddy, a new arrival at camp. Together, the group attempts to solve their first case, one that begins to pull them into a situation far bigger than they expected.

Mckenna Grace has already grown into one of the most consistently compelling performers of her generation. This year alone will see her appear in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, as well as Scream 7, adding two major franchises to a career that shows no signs of slowing down. She also previously voiced a young Daphne in the animated film ‘Scoob!’, giving her a much more personal connection to the character she will now portray in live action.

The Scooby-Doo series will run for eight episodes and is produced by Berlanti Productions, with Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg serving as showrunners. While casting for the rest of the gang has yet to be announced, more casting announcements and production updates are expected soon as the series is expected to begin filming in April.
