Frieren Season 2 Announces Delay After Revealing First-Look at Its New Arc

Frieren Season 2 Announces Delay After Revealing First-Look at Its New Arc

After a modest 5-episode run, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End season 2 is taking a small break to gear up for its big Divine Revolt arc. While fans may be saddened to hear that the beloved anime series is taking some time off, it won’t be long before the series returns.

The delay was revealed with a stunning new poster that teases the arc. Frieren season 2 is taking a week-long break and will return on February 27th for its new Divine Revolt arc.

Though no reason has been given for Frieren season 2’s delay, given that Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 was hit with a similar delay, it can be speculated that this break is due to the currently ongoing Winter Olympics.

While the delay of a week isn’t a huge deal, what’s more surprising is that this break is coming at the exact halfway point of Frieren’s new season. Recently revealed information from the Frieren season 2’s forthcoming Blu-ray release suggests that it will only have 10 episodes.

In contrast, Frieren season 1 had a whopping 28 episodes. Given that Frieren is one of the few anime with film-quality animation, it certainly makes sense why studio Madhouse would want to downsize for season 2, but it will still likely be sad news for fans of the series.

Though the series’ second season is only halfway over, Frieren is already a big contender for 2026’s Anime-of-the-Year. The series’ animation, writing, and soundtrack remain consistently impressive.

That’s only likely to continue with the forthcoming release of the Divine Revolt arc. Based on the posters, it has the opportunity to be a true epic as Frieren, Fern, and Stark face off against an incredibly powerful demon. The result could easily rival Fern and Stark’s battle against Lügner and Linie from Frieren season 1.

Though Frieren season 2 might be brief, it still shines just as brightly as season 1. While fans can hope that there won’t be a huge gap between season 2 and a hypothetical season 3, that should do nothing to diminish the sheer weight of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End season 2’s creative success.
